Passport To Africa At Werribee Zoo
Where: Werribee Open Range Zoo
When: 19 September 2015 – 18 December 2015
Time: Daily, 9am – 5pm
This spring come face to face with rhinos, giraffe and zebra on an amazing journey through Africa at Werribee Open Range Zoo. Little explorers will receive a map and an official Zoo Passport to choose their own adventure through the Zoo. Mark off animals as you visit them and collect official passport stamps at each checkpoint. On the Safari Tour, be sure to keep your camera at the ready for rhinos wallowing in the mud, giraffe foraging amongst the treetops and a very different kind of ‘zebra crossing’ in front of your safari bus. Kids will also have a blast on the Zoo’s new Bush Babies Safari Trail. Designed with busy toddlers and strollers in mind, the trail winds its way beneath a canopy of trees, with mounds and dips to conquer and interactive play elements. The fun continues at Ranger Kids, the Zoo’s indoor play space. Here, kids transform themselves into rangers and vets as they monitor the herds out on the savannah and bring injured giraffe and zebra back to the field tent for treatment. As part of this African adventure, visitors can also help save the critically endangered Grevy’s Zebra through a unique, community-based program in Kenya called Beads for Wildlife. Remember, kids under 16 are free every weekend, Victorian Government school holidays and public holidays.

Werribee Open Range Zoo Christmas Concert
Where: Werribee Open Range Zoo
When: 20 December 2015
Time: 10:00am – 3:00pm
Catching up with people on Christmas Day can often be a real juggle, driving across the city (or the state!) to try to make hot roasts, barbeques and left-over Boxing Day Pavlova with family and friends.
This year Werribee Open Range Zoo will host a special Christmas Concert on the first weekend of the school holidays, providing the perfect opportunity for a relaxed family or end-of-work get-together.
Christmas carols will be performed by the Werribee Concert Band and With One Voice choir and the animals will share in the festive cheer, with some special enrichment treats hidden in brightly wrapped boxes, bon bons and sacks.
There will be a gingerbread-decorating station where kids can decorate and take home their own Christmas gingerbread for a gold coin donation and they’ll also love making their own Christmas Tree decoration and splashing around in the Zoo’s new water play area at Hippo Beach.
Kids can also purchase small gifts in the kids-only cave in the Village Trader.
Picnics are welcome and there’ll be roast pork rolls, fairy floss and popcorn available in the African Village.
